Freedom Friday

It's finished, that is VBS is done for this year at our church. What a riotous and wonderful week we had at Son Rock Kids' Camp. On our busiest day, we had 105 kids and 59 volunteers. The weather, though rainy in the afternoons, cooperated for the most part. Tuesday was water day and the kids had water balloon fights and our own version of a slip and slide. They loved it.
Although I started the week counting the days until it was over, I must admit to being a bit weepy this morning as I bid all those cherubs goodbye at our last assembly.
Before VBS started this year, I decided I'd wear a different hat each day. Just something to get the kids' attention. Today, I held all the hats up and let them vote. It was great fun.

The Many Hats of a VBS Director

Day 1

Day 2 - I forgot my hat and had to improvise.
Day 3

Day 4 - This is Jim's favorite hat.

.

Day 4 - Parent's Program Night.

Day 5

AND THE WINNER IS:

DAY 5 - Jim's Pittsburgh Steeler's Hat.

Now, I have to admit to a little audience cajoling. I knew we had some died in the wool Steeler fans in the auditorium and I really played to them. Of course, the kids knew right away what my favorite was and I think that might have swayed them too. Whatever, the outcome was uproarious applause and lots of fun.

So, you can see it's been quite a week. While I was off at Bible School, we had our carpets cleaned. Needless to say, I wasn't much in the mood for putting things back in order when I got home in the afternoons, so this weekend will be "concentrate on the house and garden." That's okay with me. I'll be happy to get back to a somewhat normal schedule.

I need to get busy on my stamping project for Camp Potosi in Las Vegas which begins July 27. We're off to Boston and Martha's Vineyard on July 14th, so I really need get busy. Speaking of Potosi, our mission project at VBS was to raise money for Potosi Camp Scholarships and we have raised over $800 with more coming in. I am so proud of the kids here in our churches who wanted to reach out to kids across the country who don't have the opportunities they do.

Okay, enough, enough! I'm off to have a nice pre-dinner conversation and appetizers with my hubby.

Hi Pam,

I love the hats! My favorite is Jim's favorite, but the improvised hat is a close second. Guess there are many Steeler fans there.

Sounds like you have a busy July coming up. And how wonderful that $800 was raised for Camp Potosi!

Love the quote at the end, too.

Have a wonderful 4th of July!

Hugs,

Renie

PS. Yes, I ride in the jet ski, have done so for 6 years, and I love it. Of course, I do wear a life jacket!

Glad you had such a good time at VBS!!! We did too with about 148 kids coming through the program! This was our best year yet, we just love the Son Rock series. I was the head of the skit crew for many years till the heat and hot flashes drove me out. Our church doesn't have AC and it would get to be 100* in there some nights during VBS!! Hopefully someday I will be able to do it again. So glad the little boy stopped running and a possible tragedy avoided! Yes God is good!!!

We had a soggy 4th today but did manage to get to the coast for seafood. It is raining again tonight with some thunder far off. Hope it's not headed this way, we've had too much of that this week. One night was just incredible it was so loud.

Yes, Miss T does well at her lessons. Once she started cantering she hasn't looked back. Her pony here at home isn't as cooperative as her lesson pony so gives her a bit of a time but she will learn how to handle him with time. When are you going to post some pictures of your lessons???? I'm dying to see them. I try to ride every day but today was a wash out so didn't get to go out.

Hope you had a good 4th!

Oh my goodness, Pam, you are SO cute in all your hats!! I can only imagine that you were the best VBS Director EVER!!! (I'm sad because our VBS will be going on while we are at the beach next week for Delaney's World Series. I'm going to miss being there for it; it had become sort of a tradition for me to be the "storyteller" and I will miss doing that!)
