A Day at the Falls

_
Jim and I have been maintaining a list of things to do "someday" for a very long time. And honestly, we have been doing a good job of whittling it down since I retired. Just this past winter, after seeing Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson's hit movie, did we officially name our list "The Bucket List".

One of the things on our list has been to visit some of the amazing sights right here in our own Finger Lakes region of New York. This summer we spent a day at the Corning Glass Museum in Corning, NY, a wonderful way to spend a day.

Yesterday, a totally gorgeous fall day, Jim and I, along with our newly retired friends, Linda and Jason, visited Taughonnock Falls State Park on the shore of Cayuga Lake. I think I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Right inside the park, we came upon this beautiful sight

A small falls at the mouth of the gorge

Along the bottom of the gorge

To the base of the falls

Notice our cool walking sticks, handcrafted by BIL, Dale

A view from the South Rim Trail

Elderberries, which prompted me to tell Linda "Why I hated boys when I
was ten". The boys would get the hollow handles of fly swatters, pick
elderberries and hide and shoot (blow) them at us as we walked by. Not
only elderberries, but real peas (navy beans) which hurt like crazy.
I think I'll write a whole essay about "Boys are mean, throw stones",
someday.

The falls from the North Rim lookout

My favorite shot of the day

Since we hiked at least four miles, we ended the day by stopping for the best darn ice cream I've tasted in a very long time.

Oooooh. I remember the summer we camped and hiked the trails with good, ol'Jazzy.
You've got me wanting to take a drive there Sunday. I wonder if the weather will cooperate this weekend.

Beautiful, beautiful photos, Pam! Nothing can surpass Mother Nature, can it? We all have so much beauty right in our own backyards, so to speak, that we should explore, don't we?

You have more energy than me, that's for sure! I'd participate in the last part of your hike, getting that ice cream cone!

I see you remembered your tripod! Nice that you got a good shot of the four of you! Now you've got some retired friends to do some of those things with you on your "Bucket List!"

Keep enjoying life!!!

These pictures are AMAZING!!!!!! I especially love the one of the tall falls!! (Gary is a big fan of waterfalls and he loves taking photos of them.)

I love the Bucket List idea. I try and live that way constantly...to do things today and not put off until tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful day!!

Wow Pam, what a gorgeous area! Your pictures are beautiful. Autumn is the best time to get out there and enjoy God's beautiful creations. And I bet that ice cream really hit the spot, at the end of the hike!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hugs and blessings,

Renie
