Friday Fragments

It's been a rather mundane week since I last posted on Monday, doctor's appointments, visits to the nursing home, a trip (by Jim) to Pennsylvania for a doctor's appointment with his mom.

Today, we started with another doctor's appointment for Jim. Ten months ago(to the day) he was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. It is as difficult a condition as it is to pronounce. He ached in every joint in his body except his ankles. We were really blessed to be given an appointment with a rheumatologist. Sometimes it can take as long as 6 months to get an appointment. Jim saw Dr. Chen within three weeks. What a wonderful doctor and man is Dr. Chen. We both say every time we go in for an appointment that we would like to have him as a neighbor. Anyway, the good news today was that Jim is doing really well and continues to decrease his medication. If all goes well in the next three weeks, he will be off the medication totally. Hallelujah!

In celebration, we stopped for a great breakfast on the way home. As usual, when we are out, we did all our errands. The afternoon found us walking in one of our favorite spots, the cemetery.

We spent a quiet afternoon; Jim working on his puzzle and me editing some pictures to be printed.

In the late afternoon, I cooked. We enjoyed this wonderful meal of scallops and pasta. I made an apple, carrot and raisin salad to go with it.

Our evening plan is to play some Yahtzee and go to bed early. Not a very exciting day, I guess.

My friend, Joy, sent me this fun email earlier this week. I hope you enjoy it.

Why? Why? Why?

Why do we press harder on the remote when we know the batteries are going dead?

Is there ever a day when mattresses are not on sale?

Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?

Why is that no plastic bag will open fromt he end on your first try?

How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?

Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough money?

Why does someone believe you when you say there four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use, the bubbles are always white?

In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in the summer when we complained about the heat?

The statistics on sanity is that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they are okay, then it's you.

Remember, a day without a smile is like a day without sunshine.

Ahhh....a woman after my own heart :)I love how your day went and can appreciate when a week fills up with just this n' that.
I discovered that I love walking around a cemetery as well. Since our son passed away, we visit there as often as we can, pull out our chairs and sip take-out coffee. Our son is buried beneath a gnarly old tree covered in moss...and is beautiful in every season. A tradition my Hubby and 3 sons had was to celebrate occasions, gathering together and smoking a Cuban cigar...so Hubby smokes one at the Cemetery while we talk to ourselves and go down memory lane. Peace!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear how well your dear Jim is doing. And you haven't mentioned your wrist, so that must be healed and well by now. My friend Eileen, who broke wrist in March, has recovered very well, thank the Good Lord.

Your scallop dinner sounds yummy.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Hugs,

Renie

You are sooooo busy, but what you do does sound like fun! A walk in the cemetery? I'd love that, too, but certainly not alone! We used to do that years ago when we'd be home to PA. Now I wish I had taken pics of all the headstones just so I would have the dates.

Glad Jim is doing so well. Hope he gets off the medication soon. Sometimes the side effects of thatcan be worse than the ailment. Can't win as we grow old, can we?
