~Friday Fragments~

It's Friday again. It is one of those days when I can look back on the week and be pleased with what I've accomplished. Believe me, there are many weeks when I don't have that sense of well being, but this week, this week was terrific.

The weather has been "splendiferous" to quote my MIL. Although the nights have been quite chilly, the days have been sunny and warm. Perfect fall days. With this delightful weather, comes light hearted and joyful moods along with energy to spare.

We've been trying to be faithful about our exercise and this week we managed to walk every day. Tuesday, we treated ourselves to lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants where we always have a salad. We topped it off with a wonderful walk along the Erie Canal.

Why don't I ever remember my tripod?

The leaves are really beginning to be beautiful around here.

We are so fortunate to have these delightful paths along the canal. There are three different points where we can park and walk. We always run into other walkers, joggers and bikers along this walkway. Here was a very slow walker which I would rather not have seen as he reminds me of the coming winter.

Meet Mr. Wooly Bear!

This walk is so peaceful and relaxing I almost forget I'm out there for exercise. Even though we try to keep a good pace, I find time to stop and take pictures of the beauty we are experiencing.

Isn't this just delightful?

Wednesday found us visiting our friend Florence at the nursing home. We always try to be wise gas consumers and make good use of our trips into see her. We left the nursing home, went to the supermarket, stopped off at Michael's, ran into Pottery Barn to buy a wedding shower gift and then went to the nursery to buy a red hibiscus for my front garden.

Now, is that a full day's accomplishment or what?

Thursday is my morning to have breakfast with my buddies, The Loser Housewives. What a great way to start the day. These gals have been dear, dear friends for many years. I called Jim from the restaurant and he met me at the Town Park to walk our 40 minute route. Once again, the day was delightful, making walking a pleasure (in spite of the pain).

I came home from walking and baked chocolate thumbprint cookies for a shower I'm helping with this weekend.

The aroma of chocolate cookies baking was more than I could resist and I admit I ate two of these babies. And I'm not sorry.

Of course, baking means cleaning up. Not my favorite part of the project. But while I was doing that, Jim vacuumed and dusted. Hey, who can complain about that?
As if that wasn't enough, my dear hubby willingly accompanied me outside to dig up my hydrangea (that has NEVER blossomed) and plant the new hibiscus. I'm telling you that man is a Saint. I think he dug at least half-way to China to disrupt that hydrangea.

Deposing the hydrangea!

Planting the hibiscus!

If all that wasn't enough, we went to the Apple Market just down the road from our house. This is apple season in Upstate NY and we are taking full advantage of it.

Many varieties!

Crispins

Well, that brings us to today. We decided to meet our friends, Linda and Jason, to walk and have breakfast this morning. Linda and I decided on 7 A.M. When I crawled out of bed at 6:30, I asked Jim what it was like outside. His answer was, "Dark!" Do I detect a not of sarcasm there? Actually, by the time we arrived at the park, the sun was peeking out from behind the clouds, the air was brisk and a light fog was covering the fields. It was glorious. Again, there was less pain than I had expected. Of course, being able to walk and talk, talk, talk with Linda made it very palatable. The breakfast was good, the company good and it was all worth the early rising.

The rest of the day was pretty okay too. I spent a great chunk of it stamping Halloween cards.

I am such a spoiled lady. While I have been in my office playing, Jim has been in the kitchen preparing dinner and making homemade applesauce. I am so blessed.

One more quick note for anyone who might be interested. My daughter,Paige, has started a blog. You might want to stop by and see what's going on in her corner of the world. I'm so pleased and surprised to find my very talented daughter blogging.

I hope everyone has an outstanding weekend.

Hi Pam,

Wow, you have certainly had a busy, fun filled week. And what beautiful pictures you have from your walk along the Erie Canal. The colors are gorgeous!
And those chocolate thumbprint cookies look yummy! I would have eaten more than just 2! LOL.

Oh, the apples look delicious as well. And Jim is a saint, even making applesauce in your absence.

I enjoyed reading about your fun doings this week. Have an equally fun weekend!

Hugs,

Renie

Those pictures are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I'm incredibly jealous of your leaves. Sydney commented yesterday that it must be Fall since there were leaves falling from the tree outside, but the colors haven't changed much. Around here, though, it often doesn't really "look" like Fall until late October or so.

Mmmm...those thumbprint cookies look yummy. Please can I have one? :-)

I LOVE your ladies group name. I bet you guys are a hoot!

And I will go check out your daughter's blog.

Have a great weekend!!

(And, oh yeah...Day by Day is awesome. You'll have to share that chapter with me some time! LOL)

Don't you just love walking into an Apple barn and smelling the tang of fresh apples? Mmmmm! The next best thing is the smell of homemade apple sauce bubbling in the kitchen :)

LOL. I never remember my tripod either. The apples of upstate NY! My mom and I were JUST talking about the orchards there. We used to drive from Plattsburgh to Keysville for church and SOMEWHERE along the way was this apple orchard that made cinnamon donuts. OMGoodness, they were to die for. Or at least drive for.

I'd give anything for an upstate NY Fall. They are spectacular.
