I Did, Did You?

Six A.M. comes pretty early for me, but I hopped out of bed, had some coffee and went off to church to pray for our country, state, county, town and church. We have been meeting at 6:30 on Tuesday mornings for the past four Tuesdays to pray for the aforementioned things.

After prayer time, Jim met me at the polls. I wasn't sure about the legality of taking pictures in and around the polling place, so don't have a picture of the packed parking lot. Our whole town votes in the Fire Hall. I can't remember seeing that many people out at one time voting in our little town.

Election day is exciting not matter what your political persuasion. It is so good to see people exercising their right vote. Like Cheryl, I want to dance and sing a little just for the joy of being an American. It was cool running into people I hardly ever see. One man asked me how things were going at the library. I have been retired for 3-1/2 years. I guess he's not much of a reader.
Having done our duty, we met Linda and Jason and went to the outlet mall to shop, shop, shop. The weather was outstanding today and it was such fun to be out with friends. We had breakfast out on our way to the mall; lunch at the mall; ice cream outside under an umbrella in the late afternoon. November 4, in Upstate NY and we were having ice cream outside.

It was a really fun day. We were all relaxed and happy to be away from the TV ads and talk of the election.
I found a pair of shoes I actually liked and that fit me. I was so delighted. Linda, who is looking for a dress for her nephew's wedding wasn't quite so lucky. Have you LOOKED at the dresses out there this year? EEWW! We found lots of beautiful jackets and tops, but not much to wear them with. We'll keep looking. She has until mid December.

Jim and I just made some tortellini soup to take to Pennsylvania with us tomorrow. This is one of our favorites. Thought you might enjoy it too:
Tortellini Soup
Ingredients:
1 lb. Italian Sausage
1 C. coarsely chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, sliced
5 C. Beef broth
1/2 C. Water
1/2 C. Dry Red Wine
1 Can Diced Tomatoes
1 C. thinly sliced carrots
1/2 tsp. basil leaves
1/2 tsp. oregano leaves
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1-1/2 c. sliced zucchini
8 oz. frozen cheese filled tortellini
3 Tbsp. fresh parsley
1 medium green pepper cut into 1/2 inch pieces
grated Parmesan cheese
Brown sausage links. Cut into round slices. In 5 qt. Dutch oven, saute onion and garlic in reserved drippings. Add beef broth, water, wine, tomatoes, carrots, basil, oregano, tomato sauce and sausages. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered, 30 minutes. Skim fat from soup. Stir in zucchini, tortellini, parsley and green pepper. Simmer, covered, an additional 35-45 minutes. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top of each serving. Freezes nicely.
ENJOY!!
Remember Friends, wake up tomorrow and pray for our president-elect, whoever he may be.

I voted a few weeks ago...and am SO GLAD! I heard the lines were insane.

Also, I took pictures the entire time I was standing in line, right up until I entered my little cubicle.

You had a long day today, and then traveling to PA tomorrow! I see Obama took NY and also PA. McCain won here in SC. We all just need to pray, period!

Your soup sounds so good, but I would need to make only a half recipe for just me. I'm a baker...I do most everything in the toaster oven....makes it easy to cook for just one person. Getting lazy in my old age, aren't I? LOL

Have a safe trip!

Yep, I love voting too!!! I'm going to have to tell the story sometime today on my blog of Sydney at the polling place. It was too cute (and vintage Scout!). I am always inspired and energized by voting. My Mother, who did not support Obama, put it best when she emailed me last night and said: "Obama will be my president, and I will pray hard for him." (I, myself, was very energized by his speech last night!)

Have a wonderful day!!

Chrissy: Glad to know it's legal to take pictures of the polling place.

Nancy: Glad to have you back posting again.

That soup sounds delicious. I wish it would get cooler now. I'm sure it will eventually, but it was rather warm the last few days. have a great weekend.. Bunches of hugs.

I dn't know how I missed this post, but miss it I did. I voted at our Volunteer Fire Department. Hardly anyone there. I'm just glad the elections are over, and yes, will pray for our new president. God bless the USA!

Great recipe. I love soup so might just try it.

Hope your trip is going great.

Hugs,

Renie

Thank you so much for the comfort food recipe Pam! I am doing shrimp scampi tonight with fresh french bread, olive oil and spices for dipping and sauteed mushrooms on the side.

We did mashed potatoes and steak last night.

As to the election, of course I voted. We have survived before, we will this election too. I am looking on line for property in Costa Rica in case it get's really bad.

I voted early to avoid the rush. It's nice that they let us do that here. Not the outcome I was hoping for but now we have to be supportive and give him a chance. I wouldn't want that job especially in this day and age.

I'd like to have a bowl of that soup right now!!!!!
